1. Sharday Shaw- " The show was a very effective use
of a tool to try to enlighten America and especially young black women
that Aids is a killer and that they need to protect themselves because
they are at risk. This show and other shows like it will educate
everyone." 2020-02
2. Kendra Grant- " This particular video gave knowledge
about those with disabilities but I wouldn't call it a teaching tool because
it does not pertain to me and my future career. The other topics
from videos like 'Education in the 21st century' and 'Brown vs. Education'
were interesting and are great for teaching people or make them aware
of what is going on with education in TN." 2010-09
3. Mario Simmons- "There is nothing wrong with using television
as a form of teaching, but the time schedule is a bit hard to commit to."
2010-09
4. Daniel Williams- "Using media as a teaching tool
is a very unique and inspiring way to teach. I think that it is very
useful in the sense that it is easy for a student to watch a 45 minute
show and learn history opposed to sitting in a class for 2 hours. Plus
everyone has a television. So i think that Dr. Haney you did an exceptional
job for preparing shows correlating to classroom subjects and that the
media is used as a great teaching tool." 2010-09
5. Shelia Leving- " I feel the use of the media is a valuable
teaching tool. Many topics discussed may be foreign to some students
and this is a way through television, that students of all ages are able
to view and understand the information." 2010-09
6. Kelli Beecher- " I believe that the videos are very
helpful. They are good teaching tools because after a discussion
in class, you can go back and watch a more in depth discussion on the topic.
The discussion on television also might spark the interest of individuals
and they can go look up some more information on the topic. 2010-09
7. Nkechi Azubike- "This media really helped me personally because
some of the issues discussed helped me write for my other classes. Ex.
Like the cotton gin." 2010-09
8. Montinike Moore- " This teaching tool was successful.
I understand that point of view of the pastor and saw what he was trying
to do when he got out of jail." 2010-09
9. Janae Henry- "I do believe that the media's is a good
teaching tool. You obtain more information, well I do. I also
believe I might have been able to obtain more of it if it wasn't so boring."
2010-09
10. Jonathan L. Edwards- "I really appreciate the media as a
teaching tool, because it's different from many other teaching methods,
and it also holds your attention and keeps yours focus on different things
in history and not just what's in the textbook." 2020-02
11. Jovanni Price- "I feel that this media as a
teaching tool is a very important because it not only allows African Americans
in general but more specifically the youth to know and to understand and
appreciate the significance of all that occurred throughout history.
This tool is very helpful in that is more understandable because it comes
from a personal aspect." 2020-02

a teaching tool is a good one, because there is more to American History
than what is written in the History textbook." 2020-02
13. Andrea Campbell- "This is a good tool of education because
it gives the student the opportunity to learn out of the classroom and
do what they normally do, watch TV. For me, It made learning easier
and I actually learned what the Salvation Army does. 2020-02
14. Maurice Blackmon- "The television shows as a whole
are a good method of teaching. It gives the students an opportunity to
obtain knowledge outside the classroom. The only flaw in this method
of teaching has it comes on entirely too early in the morning." 2020-02
15. Dewayne Waller- " I think it is very helpful because
it is important for students to have this knowledge about their health.
A good and healthy lifestyle helps students to remember and focus on classroom
exams." 2010-15
16. Joel Beard- " As a teaching tool, these shows are
somewhat effective, while the information is vital to learning history
and relating it to today, opinions of the guests, and the host can sometimes
overshadow facts." 2020-02
17. Michael Carter- "I think this method of teaching is a helpful
way to gain information. If you record the shows, it gives you the
opportunity to relook at all the info given." 2020-02
18. Juannisha Gillespie-" The use of this media
as a teaching tool is mediocre. I believe that it would be better
if there was some way to be able to watch the shows at a later time. The
shows come on really early in to morning and it is hard for some people
to get up that early. Many people work and it is damn near impossible
for them to wake up that early. But other than the time of
shows, everything is good. The shows provide additional information
on historic issues. They also provide useful information that Dr.
Haney uses in class." 2010-15
19. Conswala Fleming- "In Evaluating this media as a teaching
tool, I think this a great teaching tool for students." 2020-02
20. Danyel Johnson- "I believe this method of watching
shows to learn more about the subject we're covering in class is an excellent
method. This video method allows a person to learn more information
outside of class, and the shows can be watched on your own time if recorded.
The only problem with the method of teaching is the time the shows are
being shown. 6:00 A.M. and 7:00 A.M. are too early but as I said before
you are able to record them if you get up." 2020-02
21. Donta Robinson- "Using the media as a teaching tool
can be very good since its on T.V. and more people can see it but it also
can be bad for the people who don't watch T.V. that much or have jobs that
cause them to miss the shows." 2020-02
22. Lytisha Greer- "My evaluation of this show would be
an 8 out of 10 because it kept my interest. I like the idea of watching
these shows rather than doing the weekly term papers."
23. Lita Walker- "I think this tool is very helpful because
it gives us the opportunity to be able to learn about important information.
And it's not something that you just get out of a text. So yes I
think it is very helpful." 2010-15
24. Amber Williams- "I believe that this media should
not be used as a teaching tool in class, but as a source of information
to the public to let them know what they can do for the homeless.
I think that it should be showed on T.V. and used as helpful information
to the public." 2010-15
25. Shatika Duncan- "Using this show topic HBCU's as an
example. this media can be a wonderful teaching tool. Through the
media, students are more attentive and it is a much easier attainable source
without leaving their homes. By turning on the TV, students can learn
about American History. I think that is a great idea." 2010-15
26. Johna Meadows- "I think that this was an effective
teaching tool- more so than writing papers about subjects that might note
be of interest to us. I liked being able to choose my own topic rather
than being assigned a topic." 2020-02

and educating. I enjoyed he ones I found most interesting was the
shows about African American History, Reparations, and Black Colleges."2010-15
28. Jasema Wordlaw- "I think that you should continue to use
the shows as part of your core of the class, but you should think about
moving the show times up till about 8 O'clock. Then it will help
the student to get up and focus on the show topics and to be in a great
length with discussion the topic that were talked about on the show.
You should also talk about what happens on the show in class. The
line up of the show should go along with the curriculum of the class so
that everything can follow along with each other." 2010-15
29. Kanitha Pope- "Using TV shows as a teaching tool is a very
wise teaching method. It gives students the opportunity to learn
outside of the classroom. It also gives you a person encounter of
our history, and a personal experience with those who took part in our
history. I think this show is a good way to maintain and gain information
about American History. These types of shows should be done in more
subject areas and done nationwide. Also tapes and DVD's should be
showed that way students could keep them and pass them down to those younger
and even older. This is a Great way to teach your students outside
of the classroom."
30. Candice Graham- "Yes, I do think the sued of this media was very

show." 2010-15
35. Joshua James- "Using these TV shows is definitely a very
good teaching tool, they give very good information." 2010-15
36. Marquan Martin- "This is a good teaching tool but I think
it would be better if the tapes were available in the media center so that
students can have better access to seeing them. Because the fact
that I am in Band and was gone on numerous weekends didn't give me of the
chance to see the shows that i wanted to see." 2010-15
37. Dominique Patton- "I don't like this part of class.
I don't feel it was helpful because i arrange my classes around my
work schedule and I found it hard having to request off to accommodate
the show times. Although they were informational it would have been
better if I could find the shows on a recorded tape to watch at my conveniences.
The shows were very informative about taught me a lot about unspoken issues
however the time frame was not convenient and this was mandatory for me
to pass this course. I had to make arrangements."
38. Travis Hall- "The media as a teaching tool was fine. It allowed
you to see actual people and hear the discussions first hand. I like it."

further into history and explore more. This teaching tool needs to
be used with every class and needs to become part of the curriculum at
TSU." 2010-15
42. Kirsten Watkins- "I feel as though media is an excellent
teaching tool. Not all students benefit from reading the book and
taking notes. For some students, it is easier to obtain information
through a lecture and/or the video that we have been watching this semester.
Media/television, radio, newspaper, and magazines is an excellent and very
powerful tool being used to educate the youth of today. Just imagine
how beneficial this tool would be in other classes to further education."
2010-15
43. Kyra Green- "The show is a wonderful way of informing society
of important issues. Since everyone watches TV, it is a useful way
of teaching information." 2010-15

people around them."2010-15
45. Ladina Hudson- "I do believe that this a good teaching tool because
it opens your eyes and makes you realize that there are so many people
in need and the community could step up more to take case of our people.
This show needs to be in rotation more than just twice a week and it should
be on at a decent time."2010-15
46. Brittany High- "This media is definitely a very good teaching
tool. I believe that requiring students to watch these TV shows and
giving feedback is a very good way of teaching them valuable information.
A student can zone out if this information was given by lecture but by
TV show can enable a student to listen. I would recommend this teaching
tool to continue in history classes." 2010-15
47. Tiara Smith- "This media is a very helpful teaching device
and is great because in and out classroom experience." 2010-09
48. Jamie Runions- "Evaluation on this media as a teaching tool
is amazing. I think all students in every class should watch five shows

for prevention and to educate them. I know for me personally, i have
learned many many concerns and had questions I was thinking in my had answered
during the show. Good job to you and the people on the show and keep
up the amazing work!" 2010-15
49. Sarah Caves- "I liked the fact of watching shows that my
teacher hosted. I also got/learned a lot of information from the shows
I saw. The use of these shows and the internet for learning is a
great thing. This makes the students get involved in technology which
is what our future is going to be. I think it is a good learning
tool and should continue to be used." 2010-09
50. Meghan Johnson- "This information is a neat thing to learn, but
it comes at you so fast that people don't soak it up. It is not good
for test material. The topics and main arguments remain vivid in
my brain but the personal information about the interview does not." 2010-09

must monitor what is on the television." 2010-09

tool because it allows students to become more aware of their community
and the people and organizations around them. Without those televised
interviews, students would never know about their community and they would
never have the same opportunity to learn about these people." 2010-09
54. David Bailey- "This media is a very good teaching tool. It
is a good comparison of past and present. Through this media a student
learns about the past and present. This media not only deals with
the classroom, but it deals with life. The whole point of school
is prepare you for life so it is good that we are learning present
day issues that concern us. To me this media is a very good teaching
tool." 2010-09

educational tool. However, I do have one request and that is that
the programs are on after the 9 A.M. hour." 2010-09
56. Larry Jenkins- " The media is a very good tool when it comes
to teaching and here is why. The media is taking over and has a prominent
role in today's society. Different forms such as television, radio,
and things such as magazines all may be used as good methods or tools for
teaching. Some teachers such as yourself even use these methods and
incorporate them into their lessons. Some teacher use tapes to show
students what they need. Other teachers may used an audio recording
(esp in music) to assist in teaching a lesson. The media is huge
in this time." 2010-09

tool. With television, It is a reality that the topic of discussion
or teaching may be reinforced with visual representation. With television,
a wider audience can be reached. A teacher on television may reach
millions consequently, a teacher in the classroom may be fortunate to reach
hundreds. Because of television's popularity today, television is the best
tool for teaching due to its easy accessibility and quick methods of getting
a point across to people." 2010-09

to the college education. I believe video and audio should be a part of
the semester curriculum for most classes. This tool teaches hearing, listening
and writing skills. It improves these skills while teaching new ideas and
concepts." 2010-09
